The Art of Cakes is passionate about producing not only beautiful and unique cakes, but also in making cakes which taste delicious. We use only top quality ingredients, preferring to source our ingredients from local, organic producers wherever possible. Our kitchen is located within Ravintola Peura, Peuramaantie 152, 02480 Kirkkonummi.  The Art of Cakes provides wedding cake delivery and set up services.

Sonja Crockford is an award winning sugar artist who has been decorating cakes for over 35 years. She is primarily self-taught, learning by reading books and by trial and error. In 2010 she began taking courses in sugar floristics and figure modeling in order to bring her skills to a new level. Alan Dunn, an internationally acclaimed sugar artist has hugely influenced the direction Sonja has taken with her own sugar art and indeed her passion lies with creating life-like sugar flowers to adorn wedding and celebration cakes. She has also taken figure-making courses with Lorraine McKay, and an “extreme cake” course with Kasey Lackie, winner of “The Food Network Challenge”.

 

In 2012 Sonja began competing and at her first sugarcraft competition, The British Sugarcrafters Guild International Cake Exhibition, at Telford, UK she won Silver for her sugar peonies. She went on to win Gold and Best in Class at the Hamburg Tortenshow in Germany. She earned Merit at Cake International in Birmingham, UK. Most recently she earned silver in both the wedding cake category and the carved decorative element category at Tortenshow Hamburg 2013.  In 2015 Sonja earned first prize and a silver for her floral arrangement and bronze in the international class at Cake International Manchester.

For decades Sonja had been happy making cakes for friends and relatives as a hobby, but by 2011 demand for her cakes exceeded her capacity to make them in her free time. So the decision to open her own business was made and The Art of Cakes opened its doors in December 2012.
